What We Do

Baptisms

The Tennessee Prison Outreach Ministry is comprised of over 200 volunteers. We are a collaborative effort of many local churches, conducting preventative, rehabilitative and aftercare programming for offenders and their families.

  • Worship Services & Bible Classes: We conduct Sunday worship services at numerous local prisons and jails. We also conduct weekly Bible classes to both men and women.
  • NewLife Behaviors: We are teaching weekly faith-based, life-skill classes. Each class is 13 weeks and each student is given a certification upon completion. Our most popular courses are Christians Against Substance Abuse, Managing My Anger, and Attitudes and Behaviors. All courses are cognitive-behavioral, designed to help the offender examine themselves, their thoughts, and actions.
  • Transitional Houses: We operate two halfway houses in Nashville, Tennessee. Both the men’s and women’s home are approved by the Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole.  Our programs are six months in duration and are designed to help the offender transition from incarceration to independence, a life based upon serving God.
  • Aftercare: We help released offenders obtain food and clothing upon release. We can sometimes help them with a monthly bus pass.
  • Summer Camp: Each year in July, we have a week-long camp for the children of the incarcerated and other at-risk youth. The campers leave on a Sunday afternoon and return the following week. Scholarships are provided on an as-needed basis.
  • Federal Prison Ministry: A team of volunteers travel to federal prisons across the nation, conducting life-skill seminars from a Bible-based perspective.
  • Training: We provide training for churches and individuals who have a desire to become involved in prison ministry and for those wanting to teach NewLife Behaviors.
